The Story

WhistlePig FarmStock Rye. WhistlePig Farm, Shoreham, Vermont β€” the core expression of WhistlePig's grain-to-glass program, crafted with estate-grown rye harvested by Farmer Lee, distilled with water from the farm's own well, aged in locally-sourced sustainably-harvested Vermont Oak barrels, and bottled in the barn β€” all on the WhistlePig Farm in Shoreham, blended with older ryes for a balanced, approachable profile that serves as the most accessible expression of WhistlePig's farm-to-bottle ambition.

WhistlePig was founded on a vision that most distilleries only talk about: true grain-to-glass production from a working farm. The rye sourced and finished for the 10 Year, Old World 12, and 15 Year expressions funded the long-term ambition of growing WhistlePig's own grain, building its own distillery, and creating whiskey that is entirely a product of the Vermont farm. FarmStock is the ongoing evidence that this ambition is being realized.

The core FarmStock expression blends the estate-grown, farm-distilled rye with older sourced ryes to create a balanced, approachable whiskey that is more accessible than the bold, assertive pure-estate spirit alone. This blending philosophy is practical: young estate rye, however well-made, benefits from the integration that older rye provides. The FarmStock core expression is WhistlePig's way of introducing farm-grown rye to drinkers at a price and flavor profile that makes the exploration easy β€” a great starting point for those new to rye or to the WhistlePig farm program specifically.

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: The Vermont terroir is present β€” the estate rye's grain character alongside the vanilla and caramel that barrel aging contributes. Approachable and characterful.
  • Palate: The blend of estate-grown rye and older sourced ryes creates a balanced, well-integrated profile β€” rye grain character with the smoothness that the older rye component contributes. Accessible for new rye drinkers without being simple for experienced ones.
  • Finish: Clean and characterful with the rye grain's natural spice lingering alongside the older rye's smoother integration. Vermont terroir in every close.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How does FarmStock differ from the WhistlePig 10 Year? The 10 Year is sourced Canadian rye distillate finished and bottled at the Vermont farm. FarmStock uses WhistlePig's own estate-grown rye, farm distillation, farm water, and Vermont Oak barrels β€” blended with older ryes for balance. FarmStock is the farm-to-bottle program; the 10 Year is the sourcing-and-finishing program. Both are WhistlePig, but different production philosophies entirely.
  • What does farm-to-bottle mean at WhistlePig? The rye grain is grown on the WhistlePig Farm, harvested by the farm's own team, distilled using the farm's well water, aged in locally-sourced Vermont Oak barrels, and bottled in the farm's barn. Every step of production happens on or comes directly from the 500-acre Shoreham property.
  • Why is FarmStock blended with older ryes? Young estate-distilled rye, however well-made, benefits from the integration and roundness that older sourced rye provides. WhistlePig blends the estate rye into a more balanced expression rather than releasing pure young estate spirit, creating an approachable product that makes the farm-to-bottle story accessible to a wider audience.
