The Story
10 years. Bottled 1971. Stitzel-Weller production. Old Fitzgerald 1849 — the same vintage year as the Prime Decanter Rip Van Winkle also in the collection, now over 55 years from original bottling and from the final year of Van Winkle family ownership of the Stitzel-Weller Distillery.
The Van Winkle family sold Stitzel-Weller in 1972. The 1971 vintage bottling in standard flask format is the more accessible companion to the 1971 Prime Decanter Rip Van Winkle also in stock — the same production year, the same distillery, but in the standard Old Fitzgerald 1849 packaging versus the premium Prime Decanter presentation. Together they offer a within-year comparison of two different 1971 Stitzel-Weller presentations.
