The Story

The 8th national release in Old Fitzgerald's Bottled-in-Bond Decanter Series. Barrels produced in spring 2010, bottled in fall 2021. Black label — the hallmark of fall editions. 100 proof wheated bourbon in the diamond decanter inspired by the original 1950s Old Fitzgerald design.

The Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond series is released twice a year — Spring and Fall — each edition a specific distillation season aged to a set number of years, bottled to the strict standards of the Bottled-in-Bond Act: 100 proof, single distillery, single season, federally bonded warehouse. The fall editions are identifiable by their black label (spring editions carry a white label) — a visual system that has become part of the series' collector language.

The Fall 2021 11 Year is the 8th national release in the series. Barrels produced in spring 2010 were aged for 11 years before bottling in 2021, following Heaven Hill's wheated bourbon mashbill that connects Old Fitzgerald to the same wheat-substituted grain recipe as Pappy Van Winkle and W.L. Weller. The diamond decanter format, introduced with the inaugural Spring 2018 release, remains the series' signature presentation.

  • Finish: Warm and satisfying — caramel and gentle oak spice.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the difference between spring and fall Old Fitzgerald BiB editions? Spring editions carry a white label; fall editions carry a black label. The designation refers to the season the barrels were distilled — the Fall 2021 contains spring 2010 distillate, aged 11 years. The label color is a collector-facing visual identifier for the edition within the series.
  • How does the 11 Year compare to the 9 Year and 13 Year expressions? All three use the same wheated mashbill and BiB standard. The 9 Year is the most approachable entry; the 11 Year adds additional oak complexity; the 13 Year produces deeper fruit and caramel concentration. Each age statement reflects a different barrel cohort rather than the same spirit at different stages.
  • What is the connection between Old Fitzgerald and Pappy Van Winkle? Old Fitzgerald, Pappy Van Winkle, and W.L. Weller all use a wheated bourbon mashbill — substituting wheat for rye as the secondary grain. Old Fitzgerald's version was first registered in 1884; Pappy Van Winkle's heritage is at Stitzel-Weller, which also produced Old Fitzgerald for decades. The wheated recipe connection makes them part of the same flavor family.
  • Is the Fall 2021 still available? In limited quantities. BiB Decanter Series releases sell quickly and are not restocked.
