The Story

Takumi Edition. Kentucky Owl — a Japanese Mizunara oak finished Kentucky straight bourbon, bringing the East-meets-West flavor philosophy to the Kentucky Owl program through the application of Mizunara Japanese oak finishing to an aged Kentucky bourbon base.

'Takumi' (匠) means artisan or master craftsman in Japanese — a name that frames the Mizunara oak finishing as a craft collaboration between Kentucky bourbon tradition and Japanese cooperage heritage. Mizunara oak (Quercus mongolica) imparts incense, sandalwood, and coconut character that is completely absent from American and European oak, adding a layer of flavor complexity to the Kentucky bourbon base that no American cask type can replicate.

The Takumi Edition is one of the few expressions in the Wooden Cork catalog to apply Mizunara finishing to American bourbon, alongside WhistlePig's Japanese fermentation experiments in the Boss Hog series.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does Takumi mean? Artisan or master craftsman in Japanese — framing the Mizunara oak finishing as a craft collaboration between Kentucky bourbon tradition and Japanese cooperage heritage.
