Foursquare Distillery Exceptional Cask Selection Mark XIV 10 Years Old Détente Single Blended Rum

The newest release from the excellent Four Square Distillery in Barbados is something a bit different from previous expressions. This is a blend of two different single blended rums (pot and column still distillated mixed before aging). One spent 10 full years in ex-bourbon, while the other was transferred to Port Casks after its fourth birthday. The resulting rum is a heady mixture of dense spice, toasty vanilla and sweet black and red tangy fruits. Bottled at a perfect 102 proof, it's an exciting addition to the growing pantheon that is the Exceptional Cask Selection series. Of course, this series is always very limited, more so than the vintage releases and represent the next chapter in the development of the complex rum category.
